Enclave Editing & Modding - Ogier Tools & Documentation (Getting Started)
Enclave Editing & Modding - Ogier Tools & Documentation (Getting Started)
More than two decades after the release of Enclave, the game's design and the Starbreeze engine powering it still shine.
Many of the game settings can be changed by modifying the files found in the ..\Enclave\Sbz1 directory using a text editor (examples include dialog, characters, and attributes). However, if you've ever wanted to take the next step in creating content for the game, this guide contains information on the files, documentation, and resources available.
The original tools including Ogier, Starbreeze's easy-to-use editor, and the related documentation can be found below. Also available is more recent documentation and example content.
To get started, you can download all the main tools in a single package below. Individual files can also be downloaded from the Enclave ModDB page.
If you have any questions about the tools, or wish to share your own discoveries, feel free to post here. Until then, happy modding!

Includes:
- Ogier Version 101
This is the version of the editor which was released in 2004 and is the recommended edition to use for Enclave.
- Enclave GDK Version 103
This is the latest version of the kit which includes the compiler, entity definitions, and materials to use with the Ogier editor. The older versions of the GDK are also available for download.
- Enclave - Original Ogier Documentation
This is the latest version of the documentation released by Starbreeze in 2004. It covers topics related to Enclave, Knights of the Temple, and the original Riddick.
- Enclave - Additional Documentation & Examples
This is more recent documentation and example content which includes samples of geometry and effects used in the game. It also contains information on modifying textures, sounds, game files, and so on. This is meant to be a companion to the above official documentation, so ensure you reference both!
You may also wish to download Ogier Version 102 and the Enclave Sound Browser Fix (see below).
Below are additional resources for Enclave such as tools, fixes, and reference files:
All Enclave files can be downloaded from the ModDB page.
- Ogier Version 102
This is the version of the editor which was released for Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade. While Ogier 101 offers the most support for Enclave, having Version 102 on hand is useful for the animation browser and recording physics simulations.
- Enclave Sound Browser Fix
This fix includes sound files that work with the released versions of Ogier and allows Enclave's sounds to be browsed and previewed from within the editor.
- Developer Textures for Use With Ogier
This is a small set of developer textures which can be useful for blocking out levels or testing game ideas.
- Ogier Model Examples
This is a small pack of model examples which can be used as reference for importing custom meshes. These sample files are taken from the KotT GDK.
- Northern Watch Source
This includes the level source files for the Northern Watch custom challenge level (a compiled, playable version of the level is also available).
- Dragon UnPACKer
This is an open source game file resource explorer, it is able to open and extract content from Enclave's XTC (texture) and XWC (sound) files. Dragon UnPACKer can be downloaded from its official site, GitHub, or SourceForge.
Below are resources and tools for other games:
All files for other games can be downloaded from Ogier-Editor.
- Ogier GDK 101 for Knights of the Temple
This kit includes the compiler and editor files used to create content for Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade.
- Ogier Version 103
This is the version of the editor which was released for Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. It is not recommended for use with Enclave or KotT.
- Ogier GDK 102 for Riddick
This is the latest version of the kit which includes the compiler and editor files for The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. The older 101 version of the GDK is also available for download.
- Ogier GDK 101, Nodetype, & XMP2MAP for Quake
A GDK and Nodetype file released for Quake map creation using Ogier. I am uncertain which Nodetype file is the most up to date. XMP2MAP is used to convert XMP files to MAP (opposed to using Ogier's built in export), but I have not tested it. Also, MapConv can be used to convert and compile Ogier exported MAP files for Quake, including updating values in the file and adjusting texture scale.
Re: Ogier Tools & Documentation (Getting Started)
I've just released a set of recompiled Enclave audio files which enable Ogier's Sound Browser and in-editor sound to be used. This fix is available for download from the main link in the top post.
It seems that Enclave's .xwc files are of an older format which the release versions of Ogier are unable to support. I was able to deconstruct these files, and recompile them using a newer format which reads correctly.
"This fix makes it possible to use Ogier's Sound Browser and in-editor sound features. Included are recompiled versions of Enclave's .XWC files which can be read by any of the released versions of Ogier. Also in this archive are the .mmp (source) files for each, which contain the sound information before being compiled."
